All Breed Rescue of Texas*

All Breed Rescue of Texas is a small Houston-area rescue group which consists of three members, including Monika Heinz, a dedicated rescuer who steadily, methodically, quietly rescues dogs of all breeds. Italian Greyhounds, however, happen to be of special interest to her. She is active in the Houston area Italian Greyhound community and has been finding adoptive homes for them for over ten years. For more information, please contact Monika.

Contact Donna about Colwell

PLEASE NOTE: Colwell is NOT an ABRT rescue. He was rescued by good Samaritans who found him wandering a busy street. ABRT offered to list him on this page to help him find a home...

Colwell is definitely part IG (at least that's what the vet says), although no one is sure what the other part might be (probably something larger). He was found a couple of months ago by a caring couple who spotted him trying to cross six lanes of heavy traffic in the dark. The couple pulled over, and the wife jumped out and yelled, "No!!!" The little dog froze, then ran to a nearby parking lot. The woman tried unsuccessfully to get the dog to come to her, but she had left her car door open, and this little guy jumped right in. The couple took him home, where he was introduced to their 3 dogs and 3 cats.

As a very playful puppy (the vet estimates his age to be around 9 months), Colwell is very active and tries to engage everyone in play — the other dogs tolerate him, the cats refuse him. His Samaritan humans have had Colwell neutered, tested for heartworms (negative), and had his vaccinations brought up to date.

This boy knows his name and usually comes when called. His conformation clearly reflects IG lineage. His other IG traits include sticking to his humans like velcro (he loves to sleep under the covers). He loves to hunt squirrels, birds, mosquitos, or anything else that moves (a typical sighthound trait). He is also somewhat vocal — he doesn't bark much, but loves to "talk" to his humans. Colwell is doing well on his house-manners, as long as he is taken outside regularly, in anticipation of his needs (he hasn't learned to "ask" yet).

Colwell's saving family has fallen in love with him, but, with their other 6 pets, they simply don't have room to offer him the forever home he deserves. They have offered to keep him until the right loving home is found. As they put it, "he deserves to have a kind, loving family that will treat him special." Is that you?
