Izzy (Whippet)
Contact
TIGR about Izzy
Izzy is a red fawn and white, 20 pound female Whippet who turned one year old in July. Izzy is a very active little girl that will need a fenced yard and other dogs in her forever home to keep her company.
In her previous home where she was an only dog she had seperation anxiety. At this time she is not fond of being crated but her foster parents are working on this with her for short periods of time. |
Piper
Contact
TIGR about Piper
Hi, my name is Piper and my foster mom says I have a cute factor times ten! I’m not sure but I think that is a good thing because she is always hugging and kissing me and I know I like that!!! She also says I’m a bit of a pistol, not so sure if that one is good or not.
I love playing with my foster sibs and want to have lots of playmates at my new home. I also like having a big yard to run and play in with my friends. I don’t even mind my foster family’s cats. I’ve been told dogs and cats aren’t supposed to get along, but I can’t understand why.
Since I’m a puppy, I’m still growing and learning so my new home needs to be patient, understanding and loving. I was nine months old on September 10th, but foster mom says I have to wait until I’m a year old for a party. |
Clark (Saluki)
Contact
TIGR about Clark
Clark is a young, tri-colored feathered Saluki. He was named for Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter, as he was quiet when he first arrived at his foster home. He soon showed himself to be a Superman, as he is faster than a speeding bullet as he runs around the yard, and flies up onto the deck without ever touching a stair.
Clark loves to meet people who come into the home – he thinks they’ve come to admire his beauty. He doesn’t jump up, but will greet at the door and expects to be petted and complimented on his good manners. He’s always close to his people — running around them outside, or on a dog bed close by, or relaxing with a chew toy within eyeshot. If he’s not close, he’s probably up to something naughty — Clark is known to counter surf and to chew on things within reach. He’s learning that not everything is his, and takes soft correction with a soulful apologetic glance.
Clark currently lives with other dogs that are mostly larger than he is, and gets along well with all of them. He particularly likes to race around the yard with the young Greyhound in residence, and will play tug-of-war with him. He was initially a little growly with the annoying puppy at his foster home, so he will need supervised introduction to smaller dogs. He will wear a Greyhound muzzle easily, and that reminds him to be gentle with the puppy,as well as preventing him from chewing things if you go out. Clark does not particularly enjoy being crated, and he doesn’t like to be closed in another room, so a muzzle is a good solution. He will crate at night, though, so could transition to the crate while you’re out of the home.
Clark is a little clumsy on the leash, but is progressing every day. He loves to be brushed, and will stand while you groom him with a faraway look in his eyes. Clark learned to use the dog door in just a day or so, and has been reliably house trained with access to the dog door. He continues to try new things in his foster home, such as lying in the baby pool, and his personality is just blossoming every day. |
Bindi (Whippet Mix)
Contact
TIGR about Bindi
Meet Ms. Bindi. She is a lucky girl. She came into animal services late July with 2 other dogs. Her pack mates were adopted out very quickly, leaving her behind. Despite the fact that she had been spayed, she was scheduled to be euthanized. Thanks to the efforts of a conscientious animal services employee, TIGR was contacted, and she was rescued — just hours before a very sad and unnecessary ending.
The good news is that she was spared, and from her sunny disposition, one might think she understands. She is about 9 months old and around 40 pounds. Being still young, she could fill out a little bit. She was pretty sick with several predictable infections for a dog on the run. However, with the treatment of some antibiotics and good ole’ loving care, she is as good as new.
She wakes up happy and ready to play. She adores her Italian Greyhound foster sibs, and the big tom cat in the house. She walks on a leash beautifully and has learned to sit. Her appetite is great, and she loves stealing chewies and toys from her new friends. She is kenneled trained, but if the sun is up, she would prefer resting and/or playing outside of it.
This is a very special girl who ideally would have a very happy, active lifestyle with a pack-mate or two. She might even do well with agility training or something of the sort. You should see her do heli-loops in the yard! |
Ash
Contact
TIGR about Ash
Ash came to TIGR from a shelter (he came with heartworms). After several months of HW treatment, he is heartworm-free neutered, and has clean teeth. Every day he has more energy. He is playing with toys now and he is starting to play with Meg, my Saluki/Greyhound. He will bark at her to get her to play. Watch out…he will take your breakfast, lunch, dinner…right off your plate or out of your hand. He loves to sleep on the bed, preferably under the covers, snuggled right against you. He avoids cats and he loves kids. He loves to take walks but needs to work on his leash manners as he tends to pull. He likes car rides as long as they don’t stop at the vet.
He knows how to sit and will go lie down when he is told to. He will use a dog door if it is low, has the soft plastic door, and a couple of friends to remind him how to go through. He has not been crated just confined to the living room when his foster mom leaves the house for the day, he is not destructive. And unlike his foster siblings, two big Greyhounds, he can’t be bothered with barking just to bark. When they run outside to say hi to the neighbor dogs; he looks at his foster mom with that “Really?” look on his face and jumps up on the couch, curls up and goes to sleep.
Ash is an incredibly sweet, pretty mellow boy. He would do well during the day with another dog as a companion. |
Zahara (Saluki)
Contact
TIGR about Zahara
Zahara is a beautiful young smooth-coated Saluki released to TIGR from another adoption group, so that she may find the perfect home! We estimate that she’s between 1 and 2 years old, and she acts very much like a puppy exploring the world.
Zahara is a bit submissive on first introductions to new dogs, but after just a few minutes she’ll warm up to them. She loves to play with other dogs of all breeds, but is thrilled to have another sight hound to run with. Her foster mom says that the word that best describes Zahara is “coquette” – yes, she’s a flirt! She will run up to visiting pups, trying to get them to run with her, then leaves them far behind as she takes off running. As a coquette, she will wait for them to catch up – then turn on the afterburners. What a sight!
We also think Zahara was an interior decorator in a previous life. She LOVES to rearrange the dog beds, tugging a stack of them into precisely the right position before she flops down on top of the stack to relax with a toy or a chew. She looks like a princess on her throne!
Zahara is crate-trained and pretty reliable on house training, as long as you take her directly outside after she’s been crated. She is small-dog safe, but has not been tested with cats. As with all Salukis, a 6’ fenced yard is a must. |
Rocket
Contact
TIGR about Rocket
Rocket is a super senior at 13 years old. He is a love buddy who wants to cuddle and be hugged all day. Rocket is very laid back and gets along well with the other fosters.
He will need a home that is calm and laid back like him. He would be okay as an only dog or an apartment dog. No young children. |
Tella
Contact
TIGR about Tella
Tella is a sweet 11-year-old. She loves to be close or in your lap. She has lots of energy (for an old gal) and has AM and PM play “spurts”. She plays with our foster puppies, she’ll grab a toy and want you to play tug with her, or she’ll just play with a toy by herself.
She is a talker and really wants to tell you what is on her mind. Tella would do well with other younger dogs to play with, keeps her young too! She would be okay as an apartment dog and would prefer someone to be with her most of the time. |
Georgia and Nina
Contact
TIGR about Georgia and Nina
Georgia (fawn, 8 years, 14 pounds) and Nina (seal/blue, 7 years, 12 pounds) have been together since they were puppies and are an owner release. Their sweet, loving dispositions and soulful eyes will melt your heart when you first meet them.
Being best friend’s means they enjoy doing most things together and love each other’s company. They were raised with a Schnauzer and cat, therefore, are compatible with small animals, and especially enjoy playing with other IG’s. They were used to a doggy door; however, their foster home doesn’t have one and are learning to tell their foster family when they need to potty.
Both love to be held or snuggle next to you while relaxing in a chair. They love sleeping in the bed with you. Georgia is an under covers snuggle bug and Nina prefers to stay on top of the covers (unless it’s really cold). They are well behaved, laid back yet love to explore and play outside, walk well on a leash, and enjoy car rides. These girls would do best with older children. They are anxiously awaiting a loving forever home. |
Sophia Red
Contact
TIGR about Sophia Red
This is Sophia Red; she is one of the Kansas 5. She came from a breeder in Kansas, but we believe she has never had puppies. She is almost three years old and weighs about 11 lbs. Sophia Red has been spayed and has also had her dew claws removed. She can easily jump over a 4-foot fence if she so desired, so it would be best if you had a 6-foot fence, preferable wood.
She is a very sweet young lady, but is a little timid around new people. She loves to be held but does not like anyone to try to grab her to pick her up, but if you have a seat, she will gladly come over and greet you; this will change as time goes by as you and Sophia Red get to know each other. We use a pet pen which gives her access to the dog-door so she is able to go outside any time she wishes. Other than being a little timid; she is very well mannered and just wants to please and be rewarded for her efforts. The more praise and encouragement you give her, the better she will do and the more she will grow as the wonderful young lady she is and give you years of love and companionship.
She loves the freedom of an open room, but does like having a small place that she can call her own. She is Dog-Door trained and likes to play in the grass. I don’t think she knew what grass was until she came to foster with us. When she first arrived here in December, she played in the grass for 20 minutes in 30 degree weather before coming inside. Sophia Red does not bark. I believe this is because she was scolded when she did. She loves to sit and bake in the sun and watch everything out the windows. She loves to cuddle and sleep under the covers with you. She would flourish and continue to grow if she has another Iggy as a companion to play and cuddle with when you are busy. I do not believe she would do well with children as quick sudden moves and loud noises scare her. Sophia Red loves hugs and kisses, raw hide sticks, pup-peroni beef sticks, peanut butter dog biscuits, and her weasel play toy. She loves to play tug-a-war with you or another Iggy.
Sophia Red has come a long way since she came into foster with my boys. She has a tom-boy side and can hold her own when she is playing with my boys. She has so much love and affection to give and would make a wonderful fur-ever companion. |
Blue
Contact
TIGR about Blue
Blue is a beautiful, small (about 7 pounds) Blue/Fawn puppy (dob 7/5/2010). He has overcome many issues in the past couple of months. He is ready to trust people and loves to play with his foster sibs. He is shy at first, but will warm up to you with a little time. He is playful but also loves to cuddle with you on the sofa or under the covers in bed. He uses a dog door at his foster home, but also will use pee pads inside if you have to leave him for a little while. He is not comfortable in a crate at all. He will whine and suffer very vocally. Blue loves playing in the back yard in nice weather, but is cold natured and does not like going out in the cold or rain. I think Blue would make a good apartment dog for someone that wanted to continue his pee pad training or perhaps try to litter box train him. He doesn’t like walking on the leash, but loves to be carried when we go out shopping at the pet store. We do NOT take him to dog parks because we don’t want him to get trampled by a larger or rougher playing dog. He would make a great only dog for someone who stays home with him all day or can take him to work with them.
Blue will need a very special person to take care of him and pay attention to his health issues. He is currently on NSAIDs to help with his pain and does very well with it. He still will cry out occasionally when he is sleeping or as he wakes up. Due to Blue’s chronic pain issues, he will do best in a home without children or rough dogs. His future home needs to be aware that he may always be on meds and may need expensive/extensive medical care in the future. He has tons of love to share with the special person that allows him into their heart and home. |
Sunday
Contact
TIGR about Sunday
Sunday was hit by a car on New Year’s eve/day and found in the middle of a busy road about 3:00 a.m. by a good samaritan. She was taken to an emergency vet where it was found that she had a broken pelvis and a gaping wound that required a tube and staples. She recooperated for about a month and then was turned over to TIGR. Sunday is about 6 years old. She is very smart and quickly caught on to the doggie door and her foster mom says that she has had absolutely no accidents in the house.
Sunday was very shy at first but is coming around but now follows me everywhere. She loves to be petted and have her belly scratched and will let you play with her ears and feet. Sunday is a talker! I’ve never seen an iggle that talks so much. She will let you know when she needs to go out, when she wants her treats, and she just talks and talks and talks when you come home. She is a very sweet girl that really needs a good home where she will get plenty of attention. Sunday gets along well with other dogs and cats, but would be great as a single pet. She doesn’t know too much about toys, and I have my suspicions that she may have been somewhat abused in her previous home. But she learns fast and really wants to please her person. Sunday is very delicate and weighs about 10 pounds — she is tall but thin. Sunday is just a little pleasure to have, and i am hoping that we can find her a really good forever home so that she will have a happy ending for 2011. (fostering in Corpus Christi) |
Maya
Contact
TIGR about Maya
Maya is an awesome dog… the one everyone dreams about having… crate-trained, house-trained, fine around other dogs and cats… tends to take on the attitude of the household. Is a very, straight up HIGH JUMPER! Whether you are sitting in your recliner watching TV, or sitting at a desk doing some office work, she’ll burrow under her favorite blanket right beside you or on your lap. She is the first one under the covers at night and stays put…she doesn’t like to sleep alone! Just keep in mind that while she’s doing this, she’s also burrowing right down into the middle of your heart.
Maya plays well with other dogs, but sometimes gets a little rough…she is a take charge kind of girl. She does best with being in the company of other dogs and has a tendency to have separation anxiety when you are not home. She also wants to go do her business outside and come right back in…no lingering or sunbathing for her…she’s an under the cover type of gal. Maya would be best suited with a person/family that is not gone long periods of time and can devote lots of TLC to her. |
Bambi
Contact
TIGR about Bambi
Hello world, my name is Bambi, and I’m just as cute, if not cuter, than the Disney baby deer named Bambi. I came from Kanas via a few chariots, no spinning houses landing on witches, and found my way to the San Antonio area were I am being fostered. I’m approximately 8.5 pounds of absolute cuteness and young at only 2 1/2 years old. I am a beautiful red color with some white markings and slight black masking on my face. I’ve got little deer ears that point straight up and I don’t miss a thing. I have had all my shots, a dental and recently had my spay surgery. In a very short matter of time, I have learned to sleep in my crate all night without any accidents. I use a supervised pet door for my potty. I also learned in record time to use potty pads in a just few days. My foster Mom tells me I am the most petite little girl she has every fostered and that I am extremely smart and very eager to please. I am as perfect as any IG can be, but I am still human shy – but I’ll follow you all day long, but still trying to get used to being held and picked up. I really want to be close to you, but just a bit fearful of a big human. Other dogs are divine, except big ones, I’m learning that it’s OK to live with a Greyhound and a Whippet and four other IG’s. When I play — I bump my fanny against them to get their attention and boy do I love to play and I’m just getting used to toys – what a great concept, since sometimes the other IG’s don’t always want to play with me. I’d love to meet you and hope you’ll consider me as your forever Bambi. (fostering in San Antonio) |
Ernie
Contact
TIGR about Ernie
Ernie is a tiny little bundle of sweet! He is five years old, but weighs in at less than 9 pounds. Ernie is generally fearful of other dogs, even other iggies, so he will probably do best as an only dog. But he LOVES people and is very open to meeting new human friends! Ernie likes to play with tug with one of his toys every evening. He loves mealtime too, and is doing great with going outside to “go potty.” He holds the world record for walking on his back legs, especially when food is nearby! He was a little slow to snuggle up with the humans, but after earning his trust he has really become a snuggle bug. He is great on a leash, and lives for car rides. He can be a little pushy about going with you when you leave, but is doing better with some correction. Ernie seems to do well around children too. Ernie is a sweet, funny dog with a heart of gold. Jack and Jill
Contact
TIGR about Jack and Jill
Hi, my name is Jack and this is my sister Jill. Ten years ago we were adopted as puppies by a wonderful couple. Unfortunately, due to their poor health, they were no longer able to care for us. They contacted TIGR to help us find a new forever home.
We are very well behaved and do not have accidents in the house. We love to cuddle together in our crate or on the couch, bed or anyplace that is warm and soft. Our favorite time is mealtime but we also love to snuggle with our foster family.
There are big Greyhounds and two other Iggys at our foster home. We get along well as long as the big Greyhounds don’t get too close. Going for walks is new to us, so we are still learning to walk nicely on a leash.
We are healthy and up to date on all of our shots and heartworm prevention. As you can tell from our picture, our bag is packed and we are ready for our forever home. We want to stay together as Jill is shy and really needs me (Jack) for moral support. We can’t wait to meet you so come see us at a TIGR meet & greet soon. |
Beppe
Contact
TIGR about Beppe
Beppe is a 6 year old Italian Greyhound. He is very loving and kind. He loves to run, play and cuddle. His favorite place to sleep is under the covers by your feet. He makes a wonderful foot warmer. When Beppe was 9 months old he broke his left front leg and was taken to what I was told was the best orthopedic surgeon in Ft. Worth at the time. After two surgeries and two different types of pins his leg is healed completely. The only evidence is a little scar and a lump where the calcium deposited. He doesn’t act like it bothers him at all. Beppe is also very smart. He can open doors and pull food off counters if they are left out. He loves people once he gets to know them and would like nothing more than to sit on your lap or at your feet. |
Georgie
Contact
TIGR about Georgie
Georgie is very sweet and will sit by you on the sofa and snuggle and sleep in bed and snuggle but she can be a little shy about interacting with people when you are standing up doing things. She is starting to play with the dogs and is very cute and playful. She is just a year and a half old.
She’s a little bigger than some IGs and weighs twelve pounds but she is a good looking dog.
She needs someone who will be paitent with her until she feels comfortable and then I think she will be fine. She has come a long way since she has been here but she is still a little timid and skitish at times. I think she would do best in a quiet, adult (maybe older children) home. Fast movements and noises seem to frighten her so calm, slow, and quiet would probably be best.
She doesn’t walk on a leash very well but we are working on that. Something else that will take a little time.
I think with the right family that can give her some time to adjust and be patient with her she will be a great dog. (fostering in Austin) |
Petrie (IG Mix)
Contact
TIGR about Petrie
Petrie is an IG mix….his mother was a IG/CHI and his father was a Yorkie. Petrie is 4 1/2 pounds of pure cuteness! He would best fit in a home where someone is home most of the day and no children. He is a true LAP DOG! If you are sitting, he is in your lap. Petrie is not much on socializing with other dogs, but he loves humans! He can be a bit shy at first but warms up very quickly. I picture Petrie with someone that works from home or else is retired that wants company all day long. If this sounds like you, then Petrie could be the dog you’ve been looking for! Oh and he’s a good watch dog too. |
Joey
Contact
TIGR about Joey
Joey came into rescue through no fault of his own after his owners had no time for him. What we have here is your basic spirit filled, loving and playful IG. Once you meet him you will find it difficult to believe he’s 9 years old.
He is a handsome cuddly lap hog. Generally, he moves quickly or happily bounces from place to place. His former home had a pet door and he really misses that. He is slowly learning to communicate his need to go outside but hasn’t quite got it yet. Joey has picked up on our daily routine quickly and easily.
He loves sitting on the couch with us. He walks well on leash and is beginning to get excited about going for walks. Joey is gated in the laundry room with our IG’s when we are gone and he loves to burrow under the covers in our bed at night. He interacts well with our Iggies and Greyhounds. Joey loves to back up to your leg and rub his butt against you — very cute! He’s just plain infectious! Everyone he meets becomes an instant friend to him. |
Tess
Contact
TIGR about Tess
My name is Tess. I am a mature, house-broken iggy. My foster mom has a doggie door I use easily with my other furry siblings. We get along well during the day running and playing together. In the evening, I like to curl up with them and clean their ears. My nature is to nurture other dogs. In my new home I would like to have another relaxed iggy sibling to play and cuddle with in a blanket. At bedtime I am affectionate and love to sleep on my foster mom's feet. During the day I can be a bit stand offish and skittish of loud noises or quick movements, a bit cat like in my ways. My black shiny coat and petite stature make me a pretty sight sitting on the back of the couch sunbathing. I am capable of jumping on chairs to reach bits of food you may leave behind. I have become attached to my foster family and say "hello" with barking as it can be exciting to see the ones I love come back to me. Give me a chance to greet you as you come home! |
